Personal story by Mohammed Mahdi Alsubaiti

Far From Home, Supported by My Saudi Embassy

A passport that could not be found, a call for help, and the follow-up that brought us safely home.

We were completing the boarding-pass procedures for our journey back to Saudi Arabia when we could not find one of my companions’ passports. We were at an airport outside the Kingdom, preparing to return home, and a document we needed was missing.

That is the situation I shared in two TikTok videos published on 13 and 14 August 2026. It was a personal experience, and I wanted to tell it in my own words: what happened, how the Saudi embassy responded, and why I was grateful for the support we received.

A call to the embassy

I contacted the Saudi embassy in the country I was visiting and explained the situation to a member of its staff. The embassy employee asked for a short time to follow up on the matter.

A search for the passport took place at the airport. It was found and recovered, allowing us to complete the travel procedures. My companions and I returned safely to Saudi Arabia. Alhamdulillah — praise be to God.

The passport being found was the practical outcome we needed. But another part of the experience deserves to be told alongside it: the embassy employee called me again to check that I had received the passport and that the procedures were in order.

That follow-up mattered to me. The response was not only about taking my initial call. It continued through to checking that the document was back with us and that we could complete our journey home.

More than a recovered document

In my second video, I said that the embassy had done its job and more. That was my way of expressing appreciation for both the response and the continued attention to our situation.

For me, this experience reflected the support Saudi citizens can feel from their country while abroad. Saudi Arabia’s place in the world is something I spoke about when sharing the story, but so was the direct, personal meaning of that support: being able to contact our embassy when we needed assistance.

I offered my sincere thanks to the Saudi embassy and its staff for their responsiveness and care. I also expressed my gratitude to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud for the leadership’s attention to Saudi citizens, both at home and overseas.

What I hope fellow travellers take from this

The practical advice I shared is simple: keep the contact details of the Saudi embassy or consulate at your destination, and turn to them when you need help.

My story is about one situation and the assistance we received. I share it with gratitude, rather than as a promise about how every travel difficulty will unfold. In our case, the passport was recovered, the embassy followed up, and we returned home safely.

The two videos together had recorded 575,900 views as of 7 November 2026. For anyone encountering the story in English, the point I want to carry across is the same one I shared in Arabic: appreciation for the people who responded and stayed in touch until our travel arrangements were back on track.
